STM 2023 Wrap-Up: Short-Term Missions, Long-Term Blessings
Summer 2023 is gone just as quickly as it came. However, for the first time in multiple years, OPC Short-Term Missions is thankful to be able to look back on a summer full of teams traveling around the globe to assist missionaries, engage in evangelism, and to reach the lost with the gospel. This year, over 200 short-term missionaries went out to six locations: Quebec, Canada; two Czech Republic locations; Western Ukraine; Lanham, MD; and Wildwood, NJ.
Pastors Serve Too!
Jim Hoekstra, pastor of Immanuel OPC in Anoka, MN, joined a team headed to the Czech Republic this past summer. While there, he helped host and teach English Camp for local children. In addition to standard vocabulary themes which are taught throughout the week, reading and conversation lessons are drawn from Bible stories. Pastor Jim speaks of the trip in this way:

Renewed Focus on the Work at Hand
This summer I got to experience short-term missions from a new perspective—as a Missionary Associate in the Czech Republic who had been on the field for a full twelve months before the summer STM teams arrived . . .
Opportunities to Talk About How God Saves
The English Camp team – a wonderful group of believers from several different states, united by a strong desire to help Czechs learn English and give them an opportunity to hear the Gospel. Team Praha - twelve energetic and very musical, young Christians from Arizona, California, and Washington . . .
A Need I Could Fill
God opened the door for English Camp and made it clear that there was a need I could fill. The format of English Camp provides an incredible way to share the gospel while giving the Czechs a valuable skill . . .
Overview - English Camp in the Czech Republic
The English Camp team helps OP missionaries Marilyn and Jerry Farnik lead a popular family camp at which English is taught using lessons from Scripture. The team also participates in day trips, sporting activities, and talent shows with Czech families . . .
Special Friends
The Lord blessed the English camp exceedingly abundantly and I pray that he will water and grow the many seeds that were planted that week, and that those seeds may grow into an abundant harvest for His glory . . .
Short-Term Missions Are Not Only For The Young
The best part of the English Camp team is the diverse range of ages of team members, from young people to more seasoned adults, all working together . . . everybody doing their own job that fits the gifts that God has supplied them with. Short term missions are not only for the young but for the whole body of Christ . . .
We Believe
I was able to see clearly how God’s grace and mercy is working in the hearts of American and Czech Christians whose lives have been changed by hearing the Word, repentance, and regeneration. In their stories I heard my own story — hopelessly lost and graciously found, being made new in Christ . . .
Sowing the Seeds of the Gospel
Team Praha impacts you but it also impacts those around you. When you see people thinking deeply about Scripture, questioning it, searching it, you know they are close to the kingdom. It made us all rejoice to know that seeds might fall on good soil . . .
I Was There To Serve Him
Every day leading up to and during English Camp, my mind and heart were consumed with how to serve the Lord or I was reminded that I was there to serve Him. Instead of thinking about where I would eat and what sights I would see, I was thankful for health and God’s provision as fuel to serve Him everyday . . .
Summer Foreign Missions Teams
David Nakhla’s goal for each OPC short-term missions team is to help the missionaries on the field in bringing the gospel to the nations. He also hopes to enrich the experience of the team volunteers, so that when they return from a trip, they will continue to pray for the mission . . .
